Liza on MJ Autopsy: Hell's Going to Break Loose

"The Insider" has the latest... Michael Jackson's good friend Liza Minnelli told CBS's "The Early Show" today that she believes the late singer's autopsy results are going to cause quite a stir. "All of us who knew him well really know what he was like," she said. "And I'm sure that now the accolades are going, and I'm sure when the autopsy comes, all hell's going to break loose. So, thank God we're celebrating him now." She went on to say how devastated she is for the loss of her good friend. "He was just a really splendid man," she said. "And a brilliant performer who changed theatrical history. And I will miss him, I cannot tell you."

Oprah Winfrey Takes Entire Staff To Spain

Oprah Winfrey has always been generous - “You get a car!” - but even she has outdone herself this time. The media mogul has gifted her 1700 staffers and their families a three-day trip celebrating in Spain, in honor of her 55th birthday. The Harpo crew took over Barcelona hot spot Poble Espanyol to toast Queen O’s big day, and will stay in the Spanish city for three days.

But that’s not all! After stuffing their faces with wine, cheese and tapas, the giant group is headed on a 10-day Mediterranean cruise to Italy, Turkey, Greece, and Malta. Oprah is apparently footing the bill for everything, at a cost of $5400 per person. With her billions, we imagine this is hardly gonna break her bank.  [Photo: WireImage]

Matthew McConaughey & Camila Alves are expecting a second baby

Matthew McConaughey announced on his website Sunday night (Father’s Day) that he and girlfriend Camila Alves are expecting their second baby. Their first baby, son Levi, is only 11 months old. I would suspect that Camila and Matthew decided to announce now because she is nearing the end of her first trimester, the traditional time to announce. Which means Camila is probably due January-ish. Perhaps Camila and Gisele Bundchen have the same due date. There must be something in the water:

Father’s Day was twice as sweet for Matthew McConaughey: Not only did he get to celebrate his first Father’s Day with 11-month old Levi, his son with girlfriend Camila Alves, but the couple is expecting a second baby, he revealed on his Web site Sunday night.

“Happy Father’s Day. It’s my first, and the last 11 months with Levi and Camila have been the most rewarding adventure to date,” McConaughey writes. “We have more blessed news to celebrate this Father’s Day that [will] make this time next year double the fun. Levi is going to be a big brother… Yeah, we pulled off the greatest miracle in the world one more time, Camila and I are expecting our second child, bringing more life into the world, making more to live for. The future looks bright as the family grows…. just keep livin, Matthew and Camila.”

For McConaughey, 39, fatherhood “is a wild, wonderful adventure,” he told People in May. “It’s a great new chapter in life, for sure.”

Make that chapter two.

[From People]

Congratulations to Matthew and Camila - they seem like great, involved hippie parents to Levi and they’re most likely absolutely thrilled with a second baby on the way. As I see more of Matthew as a dad, I like him more. I had always been kind of “meh” about his personality and acting career, but he seems much more centered and cool now that he’s a father. Judging from the epically cute paparazzi photos of Matthew and Levi, I think they’re two peas in a hippie pod. Still, I’m sort of hoping this second baby is a little girl. I think being a dad to a little girl would improve Matthew even more. Suddenly there would be no more trailers and bongo-playing and his life would be about barrettes and glitter. It would be good for Matthew. And Camila probably wants a girl too!

Angelina Jolie designer drama; might come back for ‘Wanted 2′

There’s this cute story in Page Six today about Angelina Jolie and her drama with Mal Sirrah designer Malcolm Harris. Harris participates in “Designers For Darfur” (which gives money to Save Darfur, but not the UNHCR) but Harris has also designed a line of dresses for Mal Sirrah in which some of the proceeds go to the UN’s refugee effort. Both Harris and Angelina will be participating in events for World Refugee Day (Saturday, June 20th) and Angelina thought it would be nice to buy a few of those Mal Sirrah dresses. So what did Angelina do? She called up the designer to see if he could send some stuff over for her to purchase. That’s when Malcolm was like, “Amanda stop pretending to be Angelina Jolie, bitch! Stop wasting my time!”

FASHIONISTA Malcolm Harris hung up on Angelina Jolie — twice.

The Mal Sirrah designer didn’t believe it was Jolie on the line when she called last week to order three of his “One Dress” frocks.

Finally, she convinced him she was the real deal by explaining they were both participating in World Refugee Day on Saturday.

Jolie bought three of Harris’ dresses for $225 a pop, knowing that some of the proceeds go to the UN’s refugee effort. Harris confirmed the story to Page Six and said, “I was so flattered.”

[From Page Six]

In other Angelina Jolie news, her Wanted director Timor Bekmabetov gave an interview to some Russian news agency this week in which he discussed the Wanted sequel. The first film made $342 million worldwide, so a sequel was sort of a no-brainer. Now Timor is saying that he really hopes Angelina comes back for the sequel, which will most likely be filming later this year. But, for those of us who have seen the film (SPOILER) Angelina’s character …uh… can’t come back.

Last summer’s action thriller “Wanted” didn’t exactly leave it open for Jolie to return for a sequel, but director Timur Bekmabetov says her character could return for another round.

In an interview with Russian news site RIA Novosti, Bekmabetov says he hopes to “resurrect” Jolie’s character. The director says other characters who suffered an un-sequel friendly fate may be brought back as well.

The director reveals that preparations for the sequel will begin in July. “I think in the late autumn or winter, shooting will be performed,” Bekmambetov said. “The shooting will take place in America, India and Russia.”

[From AHN]

Unfortunately for Timor and the Wanted producers, Angelina has already given multiple interviews where she has discussed her disinterest in coming back for the sequel. Angelina even took credit in one interview for her character’s death, saying that she asked the producers and the screenwriters if they could kill off her character. I suppose some clever screenwriter could come up with some kind of flashback sequence or prequel nonsense to get Angelina back. But I doubt she’ll sign up.

Did Sean Penn pull out of two films to go to rehab?

Sean Penn has just unceremoniously dropped out of two studio-produced films. The first that Sean was supposed to do was Cartel, which the producers have already announced will go on without Sean. The second film was that Three Stooges project that was announced with Sean, Jim Carrey and Benecio del Toro. The studio might wait for Sean for that one.

The announcement came late Tuesday, and a spokesperson told Variety that Sean was “taking an undetermined sabbatical — possibly as much as a year — to focus on his family.” His family being Robin Wright Penn, whom he recently dumped and then came back to, and his two teenage kids. Because even though Sean Penn loathes politicians, he’ll still use that ancient excuse of “spending more time with his family” that politicians-in-crisis use. Most of the time, for actors and politicians, there’s something much seedier going on.

Sean Penn’s busy shooting schedule has suddenly gone dark.

In an announcement that has caught two studios by surprise, Penn has pulled out of two films, citing personal reasons.

Penn has informed Universal and Imagine that he will be unable to star in the Asger Leth-directed drama “Cartel,” which was to be his next movie. His role will be recast. Studio is putting together a list of actors now and hopes to stick with an early fall start date.

Scripted by Peter Craig, the movie follows a man who journeys to protect his son after his wife is murdered by Mexican cartels.

Penn will also be unable to make the start date of MGM comedy “The Three Stooges.”

He was to star as Larry in the pic, directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly. “Stooges” also stars Jim Carrey as Curly and Benicio Del Toro as Moe. It’s unclear if the studio will recast or wait for Penn to return to work.

Penn has completed two films for River Road, both earmarked for release next year. “Fair Game,” the Doug Liman-directed drama about outed CIA agent Valerie Plame, co-stars Naomi Watts. The Terrence Malick-directed “The Tree of Life” also stars Brad Pitt.

During the Cannes Film Festival, Penn was revealed to be in talks to star in “This Must Be the Place,” which will mark the English-language feature debut of Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino, with a script co-written by Sorrentino and Umberto Contarello (Daily Variety, May 17). Pic was to be produced by Nicola Giuliano of Indigo Film and Andrea Occhipinti of Lucky Red. Financing and scheduling were not yet complete on that film, but Penn still intends to make the film at some point.

Penn is taking an undetermined sabbatical — possibly as much as a year — to focus on his family.

[From Variety]

So, what’s behind all of this? Does anyone buy that Sean Penn would pull out of two films just to spend time with his family? The rumors about Sean Penn being drugged up, cranked up, coked up and liquored up have been swirling for months now, so is this all drug-and-alcohol related. Michael K at Dlisted thinks so, pointing out a recent blind item in Page Six: “Which actor is on hiatus due to a drug relapse? He claimed he needed time off because of the heartbreak of his public split, but he’s actually headed to rehab.” Sounds like Sean to me.

S.S. Calvin Klein Racy Threesome Ad

A downtown Manhattan Calvin Klein billboard ad depicting a three-on-one group sex scene has family values groups up in arms. Fox News says

The blue-jeans giant has unveiled a jumbo ad that shows two young men and a young woman entwined in a semi-nude threesome, as another man undresses.

Randy Sharp of the American Family Association [said], “I find this kind of ad repulsive, I find it disgusting, I find it inappropriate for a public venue.”

Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, said, “This is graphic and intended to shock any sensibility — even in New York.”

Frankly, I don’t know what offends me more more — the depiction of a semi-nude threesome, or the man wearing the cuffed denim shorts. Both are pretty repulsive if you ask me.

And speaking of semi-nude, here are some pics of Olivia Wilde in next month’s Maxim:

Sad Ruth Madoff Can't Afford Her Luxuries Anymore

Have you ever had a moment where you wonder exactly how bad you should feel for Ruth Madoff and the specific things you should feel bad about for her? Don't worry: the New York Times did it for you.

Today's Times Styles section piece pretty much encapsulates everything that's wrong with them: Why We Should Feel Bad For Ruth Madoff. Seriously. It's called "The Loneliest Woman In New York." This one writes itself.

The piece's byline belongs to one Lynnley Browning, a Times Business reporter who clearly wanted to get close to the Madoff action. And here she is, face pressed against the window that is Ruth Madoff's life right now. It's a fascinating portrait, really: she's stuck in her Upper East Side apartment! She can't go anywhere and she can only spend money on food! Which sounds like a really nice Saturday! Browning has a different kind of opening, though:

She used to get foil highlights every six weeks - her shade is Soft Baby Blonde, and she was religious about color - but the last time she called her Manhattan salon, Pierre Michel on East 57th Street, she was told not to return. "I understand," she said, according to the salon's co-owner.

Browning then proceeds to do a rundown of the other people who've ostracized Madoff and the things that've become out of reach to her: a florist in Amagansett, her kids (who have started referring to their parents as "Ruth" and "Bernie"), the gym she can no longer work out at, the Italian restaurant down the street they owe a tab to, the other Italian restaurant she used to frequent but can't (because Bernie swindled too many regulars there), etc. She paints Ruth as having a lonely, solitary existence, one in which the walls are closing in on her:

Even in her exile, Mrs. Madoff's world is rapidly getting smaller. Victims of the scheme are pushing the bankruptcy trustee and federal prosecutors to sell anything they can, including the couple's penthouse, which was used to help secure Mr. Madoff's bail; it could be seized after Mr. Madoff's sentencing, which is scheduled for June 29.

And there's a vague element of culpability placed on Ruth in the article, but clearly: not enough. Anything that paints Ruth as lonely and sad in any regard in utterly insane. Her husband took thousands of organizations, non-profits, and families, and absolutely hosed them, and she was right there by his side, knowingly doing his bidding. So when the Times counts off all the different concessions Ruth has had to make over the last few months, even down to what she's wearing...

Before the scandal, Mrs. Madoff radiated an understated sense of taste. She favored slim black pants, fine-gauge white cotton crew necks, Susan Bennis Warren Edwards crocodile-leather flats and classic gold jewelry, according to a friend of the family who saw her regularly at gatherings. Now Mrs. Madoff spends her days largely confined to the two-story four-bedroom penthouse on 64th Street near Lexington Avenue, dressed in jeans and an Oxford-style shirt, according to someone who is in touch with her regularly.

...it looks ridiculous, and totally oblivious. And not that we're the last word on sensitivity around here, but come on: the woman invoked marital privilege, she's going to get off clear and free for a crime she was fairly implicit in. There're thousands of stories about people who've had to make concessions because of her husband, and the Times Style section - ever of the people - just spent a few thousand words about Ruthie's pizza bill and visiting hours. Thrifty.

Rei Kawakubo: ‘I Am Not a Feminist’

Comme looks from left: fall 2009, spring 2009, and fall 2008.

The 40th anniversary of Comme des Garns is upon us. And with it, designer Rei Kawakubo is launching a temporary brand called Black. Ten Black stores will open around the world in the coming weeks. The first store is open in Tokyo, while another will open in Paris in two weeks. Kawakubo tells the New York Times the purpose of Black stores, which will carry "perennial Comme looks," is to infuse these hard times with "positive energy." No word yet on whether Kawakubo is planning to bring that positive Black energy to New York, but considering this city's ravenous appetite for her H&M line — and, well, black — it would seem fitting.

Kawakubo launched her label in 1969, and despite her fiercely independent point of view has built a multi-million-dollar empire (Comme turned $108 million in 2008). Though Comme des Garns translates to "Like the Boys," the philosophy behind it has nothing to do with feminism.

“I really felt that I was on my own,” Ms. Kawakubo says. “I never felt my work had anything to do with being a woman. I am not a feminist. I was never interested in any movement as such. I just decided to make a company built around creation, and with creation as my sword, I could fight the battles I wanted to fight.”

On her design process:

“I start every collection with one word,” Ms. Kawakubo says. “I can never remember where this one word came from. I never start a collection with some historical, social, cultural or any other concrete reference or memory. After I find the word, I then do not develop it in any logical way. I deliberately avoid any order to the thought process after finding the word and instead think about the opposite of the word, or something different to it, or behind it.”

So that might explain this elusive Black concept. And why we don't yet know if New York is getting a store. See, this is why marketing teams like H&M's come in handy!

Exclusive: Fox Newser Accused of Dragging Cyclist Through Central Park

In typical Fox News fashion, when we asked a Fox News writer how a Central Park cyclist ended up being dragged on the hood of his SUV for four blocks, he blamed the victim, calling the biker a "vigilante."

Brian Dooda, a Brooklyn film archivist, was riding his bike on East Dr. in Central Park at about 5 p.m. on Thursday when he says a grey SUV cut him off, nearly swiping his front tire. Angered, Dooda caught up with the car, which had "NYP" license plates designating its driver as a media representative, at the next red light. He positioned himself in front of the SUV and told the driver to slow down and observe the park's 25 m.p.h. speed limit. Here's what happened next, according to an account Dooda gave to the NYPD and posted on a cycling message board:

The driver then accelerated, lunging straight into me, knocking me and my bicycle to the ground and to the left side of his car. I quickly got to my feet and positioned myself in front of his vehicle to prevent him from fleeing the scene. I called out to bystanders to call the police and yelled at the driver that he was insane, he just hit me, and he can't leave. The driver again accelerated into me, with no intention of stopping, forcing me, prostrate, onto the drivers side hood of his vehicle. Riding precariously with a 4,000 lb wheel inches from pulling me beneath it, I screamed for the driver to "Stop!!! Please Stop!!" over and over. He continued to ignore my pleas for some 200ft. keeping a steady 5 or 10mph. He then stopped suddenly allowing me to fall off the side of the hood. Just as quickly as he stopped he violently accelerated again knocking me to the side. This time I managed to stay standing. The driver then sped off Northbound. At this point several witnesses came to my aid and reported his license plate.

Dooda emerged from the ordeal with only a scraped elbow, but another poster to the message board who claimed to witness to the incident, painted a pretty scary picture. (In fact, it was her post that originally prompted Dooda to come forward with the statement he gave to police):

It was a bizarre sight ... a cyclist was on the hood, shouting at the driver, to please please stop the car. That cyclist kept shouting to the guy to stop, he was saying/shouting, "You could have killed me. Stop, Please stop. This is my life." something like that. We saw his bike in the road, left behind, as the SUV drove on, with the cyclist on his hood.

When the cops arrived and told Dooda that the "NYP" plate meant that the driver who nearly killed him was a journalist, Dooda told Gawker he joked: "I wonder if he's from Fox News, because he was such an asshole."

He was!

Gawker tracked down the driver, Don Broderick, who says he is a news writer for Fox News (he was formerly a reporter for the New York Post). When we first called him to confirm that he was the man to whom the vehicle that dragged Dooda for blocks was registered, Broderick said, "I don't know what you're talking about," and asked if he could call us back. A couple hours later, he called to acknowledge that he was indeed the driver, but said that he was the victim of a "vigilante" bicyclist who had attacked him: "Whatever this guy is claiming, there's no truth involved—he punched me. And I left, because he was attacking me."

Dooda says he never laid hands on Broderick, whom, he says, stared with "cold psychotic intent" while Dooda was on his hood, and answered his pleas to stop with shrugs of the shoulders and the occasional "get the fuck out of here."

"He wasn't like hanging out the window screaming 'you fucking pussy!'" Dooda says. "He spoke with his car."

Both men agree that the altercation started because Dooda was riding his bike in the left-hand lane at roughly 25 m.p.h., which caused a line of ten or so cars to back up behind him. Broderick's was the last car to get around him, which is when Dooda says Broderick tried to send him a message by abruptly cutting back over into the left lane in front of him, coming close to his tire. "He initiated the whole encounter by almost running into me," he says. "I'm sure he felt like I was antagonizing motorists because I was in the left lane riding a bicycle. But did I attack him? If he considers me pointing out that he is an aggressive and dangerous driver to be an attack, yes. Otherwise, no."

No matter who started it, actually hitting someone with your car, and then hitting them again, and then dragging them on your hood for 200 feet, and then driving away can't be legal! Dooda, who was only slightly injured with some scrapes and bruises, filed a police report with the Central Park Precinct, and says a detective has been in touch. Broderick says he hasn't been contacted by the police, and an NYPD spokesperson couldn't immediately confirm that an investigation is underway.

New York Press license plates are issued to members of the working media who can demonstrate that they are employed by a news organization—in Broderick's case, Fox. They let reporters park in special reserved spots in New York City and avoid tickets for illegal parking if they're actually covering a news story. They also let road-ragers get tagged as media employees, which sparks the interest of bloggers.

A Fox News spokeswoman didn't immediately return calls for comment.
